One thing that I absolutely love about my job is that I get to have my headphones in. That means that I get to listen to podcasts, and I’ve worked my way through quite a few of them! Below I’ve shared the podcasts that I’ve listened to from the first episode up until the current one.
This time there is definitely a trend of some dark podcasts – true crime and scary stories. I promise that it won’t be that way forever! These are just what I’ve listened to for the longest & what I’m totally caught up on.
In no particular order, here are the podcasts I’ve listened to recently!
1. My Favorite Murder – If you’re looking to hear true crime stories in a light hearted yet respectful way, this is the podcast for you! Every week, Karen and Georgia share two murders they research as well as chat about their daily lives. They also do a weekly “minisode”, where they share the hometown murder stories that listeners send in. I’ve listened to this podcast for a very long time now, and I just love it!
2. Serial Killers – If the humor and casualness of MFM isn’t quite your speed, or if you want a deep dive, you might really enjoy Serial Killers. It’s a show that shares two episodes on different serial killers. The first is typically the killer’s childhood up until their first murder, and the second talks more about their crimes and ends with their arrest. It’s very detailed and gruesome, so if you feel uncomfortable with graphic content, I would suggest skipping it.
3. Haunted Places – Haunted Places is by the same people who produce Serial Killers, but it’s got a very different style. Every week a different location is chosen, and they share the history as well as different stories that relate to it. Sometimes the stories are real encounters, and other times they are fictitious. It’s definitely creepy, and if you don’t like ghost stories I’d skip! However, if you’re willing to give it a shot and want to be scared, this is a great podcast!
4. This Podcast Will Kill You – One of my newest obsessions comes in the form of this podcast. The hosts discuss a different disease, and share the biology, the history, and what its current status is. If medicine and diseases fascinate you, I would definitely encourage you to give this show a shot! The girls have an awesome sense of humor and are so knowledgeable regarding what they’re talking about; it’s easy to feel like you’re learning while still having fun! My personal favorite episode is on Smallpox. A definite warning to anyone who’s squeamish: they don’t shy away from the gruesome details!
