Recently, Maybelline has come out with a new set of lipsticks that is supposed to compliment 50 different skin tones! They had seven different shades, and I chose to pick up the mauve color since it’s my personal favorite. The spice looked beautiful as well!
Color: As the name of this lipstick suggests, it’s a warm mauve color that pulls the slightest bit orange on me – I had hoped it would be a bit more pink. The color of this is almost exactly my lips but better, which was a letdown. I was hoping that this would be more unique and look better considering it’s supposed to flatter so many different skin tones.
It has a cream finish and looks relatively shiny, which is different than all the matte lipsticks I’ve been wearing lately and looks gorgeous! The shiny finish does a good job at not sinking into my lip lines or accentuating dry patches, which happens frequently.
Packaging: The packaging is very basic, but I really enjoy the cap matching the color of the lipstick! In terms of actual quality, I’m a little concerned that the lid doesn’t seem to attach very well. If you plan on taking this in your purse, I’d be careful about it getting everywhere due to the loose latch.
Bullet Shape: The shape of the tip is a bit more curved, which hugs my lips and makes applying a little easier.
Application: Because of the curved tip of the bullet, I found that the lipstick hugged the curves of my lips well and made it easy to get an even coat that didn’t go outside of my lips. There was very minimal cleanup needed!
Upon application, there is definitely a strong scent. It smells like a chemical vanilla – while it’s not a good smell by any means, it doesn’t bother me too much. If you’re someone who is sensitive to fragrance in your products, I’d say tread cautiously.
Fading: This is a lipstick that is very close to my own lip color, which means that it was really hard to see if there was any obvious fading. I feel like every time I checked to see what my lips looked like, they looked good for the most part. I didn’t really notice much fading in general; it was more like the color was either fully there or it wasn’t.
Transfer: This lipstick transferred just like any other lipstick would, which isn’t surprising – the big selling point is color, not formula. After eating a meal, this was almost completely gone. On the bright side, it layers over itself very nicely!
Comfort: I thought this was an incredibly comfortable lipstick. It felt hydrating and I didn’t have any issues with feeling like I needed to throw some lip balm on to recover. This is definitely standard to most cream lipsticks, so if that’s the kind of formula you prefer, this is very par the course.
Price Point: The standard cost of this lipstick is $5.99 at Target, which I think is pretty reasonable! You can almost always find a coupon, and I had one for $1 off, so I only paid $5 total. At that price, you honestly can’t go wrong!
If I were to buy another shade of this range, it would definitely be a more unique color. Because I feel like it’s such a dupable shade for me personally, I would rather invest in one that I struggle to wear confidently. I’m definitely considering the nude, red, and plum! I currently have so many lipsticks that I don’t need to buy new ones, but if you’re looking to build up your own collection you can’t go wrong with it.
I bought mine at Target, but I believe you can also find them at any drugstore, Walmart, and Ulta.
