Jolii Cosmetics Luxe Creme Matte Lipstick “Focoso” | Review

Hello friends!

I found the brand Jolii Cosmetics on Ipsy, and would absolutely never have heard of them had I not gotten this liquid lipstick in a bag. Before even trying this out I bought another three colors, so you’ll be seeing more reviews in the future!

Something I would like to point out is that the Jolii Cosmetics website states that this product is Made in Italy; however, the label on my lipstick states that it was Made in China.  I emailed to get clarification but never heard back from the brand. With the recent controversies with BoxyCharm & Ciate London, I thought this was important information to share if it could influence your purchasing decision.

Color: Focoso is a purple-based brown with neutral undertones.  I’d say the brown makes it look warmer, while the purple balances it as a generally cooler color.  On the lips it definitely pulls more red-brown.

Finish: The Luxe Creme Matte formula is one that dries down mostly matte but still has just a touch of sheen to it.  As it wears throughout the day the sheen does disappear and leave a completely matte look.

Packaging: I love the packaging of this lipstick! The gold cap and frosted tube really makes it look lux. My one complaint is that the words on the tube seem to be rubbing off, similar to the way that ColourPop lip products do.

Applicator: This applicator is just a basic doefoot, but it does work well with the mousse formula. There is no need for a well or pointed edge to make application easier.

Application: I found that because the formula was relatively thick instead of being watery like many liquid lipsticks, it was easy to apply and get in a smooth line. I never had to dip back into the tube for more product, and it went on evenly and opaque in one swipe with enough for both lips.

Transfer: This is a more comfortable formula, and as usual when they are comfortable you sacrifice wear time.  I found that this formula tends to transfer very easily – even just while drinking water after giving it plenty of time to set it would come off on my cup or straw.

Eating meant that a lot of lipstick would end up on my food and chin, so I had to be careful to clean up afterwards or I would walk around with lipstick everywhere.  It didn’t seem to be limited to just excess product, either. No matter how much I blotted off it would still come off at the same rate.

Fading: You can probably guess that due to the level of transfer, the fading on this is pretty rough.  If you’re going to eat a messy lunch with this lip product, be prepared to touch up afterwards or you will have a distinct ring of product around the edge of your lips. Even when I ate something as simple as a sandwich it got everywhere, which is unfortunate for such a bold shade.

Comfort: This formula feels great on the lips.  It’s one that dries down, but not completely and is a bit thicker and moussey, so I could throw it on and not have to worry about it drying my lips out too badly.  It didn’t cling to any dry patches on my lips, which is a problem that some thinner liquid lipsticks have.

Overall: I really enjoy the comfort of this lipstick, but to be honest this color does not bode well with said formula. I personally think it is just too dark and bold to be worn with a formula that doesn’t stay put very well. I don’t want to have to worry about my lipstick coming off or looking rough after eating, or even just after drinking my water.

That being said, this formula would work incredibly well with a nude that wouldn’t have such a dramatic appearance while fading.  If you’re someone who is okay with touching up or having a higher maintenance lip product, you’ll probably love this as the color really is stunning and the formula is wonderful.

Price Point: You can purchase this product for $18.  I got mine for significantly cheaper as an Ipsy addon, so if you’re a subscriber who’s curious to try this out I’d suggest going that route. I’ve only ever seen these on Ipsy’s website, but apparently you can also find them on Walmart!  Of course, you can also buy from the brand’s website as well.

Would you wear this color?
