Moving & A Small Life Update!

Hello friends!

As I frequently do, I seriously underestimated the amount of stress that would come with moving into my new house and did not properly prepare myself.  Basically, that means that I haven’t been able to work on the blog nearly as much as I want to lately and I’m seeing some things slip; namely my ability to properly formulate thoughts on new products and get some fab Instagram shots.

I just wanted to let you all know that I’ll be taking a tiny break for the rest of July to give myself some time to adjust to my new house, settle into things, and just breathe!  I’m still very much in love with everything I’m doing and I’m actually really sad to have to put a pause on the blog, but it’s what’s best for me and my mental health!

I’ll be back again in August, and I could not be more excited to come back feeling recharged and ready to share my thoughts on beauty again!  In the mean time, feel free to let me know anything you want to see my thoughts on; I’m happy to take suggestions.

I’ll still be around on social media, so reach out there if you want to get in touch!

An Introduction to Beauty 101

Hello friends!

One thing that’s important to know about me is that I am a naturally curious person.  I ask a lot of questions, some of which are better than others.  And I ask questions about everything.

As I started getting into makeup, I heard lots of words that I was unsure of what they meant.  To be honest, I still don’t know what some of them mean.  That is why I have decided to start this series: I have so many questions about makeup, skincare, ingredients, what the purpose of different products are, etc. and you know what they say: if you have a question about something, chances are other people do, too!

30 Days of Decluttering | April 2019

Hello friends!

In January I did a decluttering challenge for myself where I wanted to get rid of 31 items; one for each day.  I ended up getting rid of so much more than that, but I can’t help but feel a little overwhelmed by how much stuff I still have.  I’ve also been bringing in quite a few new items lately, so I decided to do another daily declutter for this month!

The thing about this declutter is that it’s much harder than January.  I don’t have many items in mind that need to go, so I’m going to take a deeper look into my collection of stuff to see what I really feel like I don’t need.

30 Days of Decluttering | April 2019 - A Midwest Belle

Day 2: Green Grid Washi Tape

Day 3: A pair of socks

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip “Creeper” | Review

Hello friends!

Colourpop took the world by storm a few years ago when they released their super shock shadows & ultra matte lips at an incredibly affordable price.  Another thing Colourpop is known for?  Limited edition!  So many colors that I’ve purchased have been discontinued.

One color that is still around though is Creeper, which is one of the original colors they released when they first started!

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip "Creeper" | Review - A Midwest Belle

Color: Creeper is a bright, blue-based red.  It has a definite pink appearance, and when the product transferred it left behind a pink stain.

Packaging: Colourpop’s packaging is notoriously bad; the writing on the tubes rubs off incredibly easily.  Other than that, it’s a nice, very standard silver cap and clear tube that looks functional and basic!  I own the sample size of this color, but packaging is identical between this and the full size; just smaller.

Applicator: The applicator is also an incredibly basic doefoot shape.  Nothing too interesting to report there!

My First Experience Getting a Facial at Ulta

Hello friends!

I’ve been curious about facials and what getting one would be like for a while now.  In March, I took a day off & wanted to make it a pamper day, which meant taking my time shopping and scheduling an appointment!

I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I decided to go with the 20 minute basic facial.  My skincare specialist introduced herself and then we got started!  First, I filled out a card that clarified whether or not I had any allergies, what kind of skincare products I was currently using, what my skin goals were, etc.

One of the questions asked is if you have ever experienced claustrophobia, which is very important to note.  There were multiple times throughout the appointment that my entire head aside from my mouth and nostrils were covered with a towel, which could trigger some major feelings for people who experience that fear.  The first time it happened, I was a little tense but it went away after the initial cover.

She looked the paper over and then decided what would be best to help with my concerns (I said redness and blackheads/gunky pores).  I somehow forgot to mention my super dry skin, but she told me she noticed it right away and was using hydrating products because of it.  She also said that I had some texture in certain areas that was very likely caused by my filled pores.

Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick “Mauve For Me” | Review

Hello friends!

Recently, Maybelline has come out with a new set of lipsticks that is supposed to compliment 50 different skin tones!  They had seven different shades, and I chose to pick up the mauve color since it’s my personal favorite.  The spice looked beautiful as well!

Maybelline Made For All Lipstick "Mauve for Me" | Review - A Midwest Belle

Color: As the name of this lipstick suggests, it’s a warm mauve color that pulls the slightest bit orange on me – I had hoped it would be a bit more pink.  The color of this is almost exactly my lips but better, which was a letdown.  I was hoping that this would be more unique and look better considering it’s supposed to flatter so many different skin tones.

It has a cream finish and looks relatively shiny, which is different than all the matte lipsticks I’ve been wearing lately and looks gorgeous!  The shiny finish does a good job at not sinking into my lip lines or accentuating dry patches, which happens frequently.

Packaging: The packaging is very basic, but I really enjoy the cap matching the color of the lipstick!  In terms of actual quality, I’m a little concerned that the lid doesn’t seem to attach very well.  If you plan on taking this in your purse, I’d be careful about it getting everywhere due to the loose latch.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick “Bittersweet” | Review

Hello friends!

I just finished trying out Ashton, and so I was excited to give Bittersweet a go!  If you read my previous post, you know that I had an awesome experience with Ashton and will definitely be keeping it around and wearing it.  Today, I have an in depth review of my thoughts regarding this specific color.

Color: Bittersweet is described as a “brown plum”, which I think is incredibly accurate!  It’s a dark brown with a purple undertone and I truly adore the way it looks!  It’s definitely a vampy shade that might be out a lot of people’s comfort zones, but it’s stunning.  I think that because I have light skin with a neutral undertone, the dark color with purple tones really flatters me.

Packaging: In the same vein of Ashton, the packaging is very sleek and beautiful!  The clear tube fits nicely with the chrome cap and black “A” emblem.  Obviously the one I have is a sample size that I purchased in a kit last year, but the packaging is exactly the same as the full size, just smaller.
